Agriculture is the backbone of poverty eradication in Uganda yet many families continue to suffer with hunger and lack of an income to meet their basic needs and sustain themselves. Reducing gender inequalities in the agricultural sector offers a critical development pathway for Divine Hearts Foundation to achieve its principal goals on hunger reduction, economic development (which includes the elimination of poverty), Education & life skills development and the promotion of medical and health care.
Consequently, we have established an initiative on Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment where we focus on strengthening the ability and commitment of families in implementing rural poverty reduction and food security through agriculture. Here, families are grouped and trained on agriculture and modern faming methods. They are later given seed capital to start and monitored by our supervising team. The Foundation also has six acres of land in Kigulu village, Iganga where we plan to put a demonstrational farm.
